English Touring Theatre Presents
Uncle Vanya
Starring Neil Pearson, Ronald Pickup and Nicholas Le Prevost
By Anton Chekhov, Directed by Peter Hall
A palpable sense of ‘what might have been’ fills the air for the
characters who inhabit a country estate in a small Russian village. Set in the 1890s, Uncle Vanya uncovers the desperate longing, unrequited love and bitter frustrations that surface when an ageing professor and his young wife
return to the estate. Darkly comic, deeply touching and rich in language and emotion, Chekhov's masterpiece is a passionate and often funny exploration of love, desire and loss. Nicholas le Prevost is a familiar face from his many TV appearances including The Camomile Lawn (directed by Peter Hall), Life Begins, Poirot, Absolute Powerand Silent Witness. He was most recently seen at Malvern in the
Peter Hall Company’s production of Alan Ayckbourn’s How the Other Half Lovesin August. Sir Peter Hall is Britain’s most
distinguished director of plays, films and operas. His many arts awards and nominations include two Tony Awards and an Olivier Award for Lifetime Achievement.
