Richard Alston, who this season celebrates the 40th anniversary of his first choreography, is widely recognized as Britain’s most musical choreographer. The importance Alston attaches to music gives his work is a unique combination of accessibility and depth. The Alston company’s 2009 programme include two of Alston’s most explosive works, including Blow Over, set to music by Philip Glass and Movements from Petrushka, set to Stravinsky’s own piano arrangement of his ballet, played live onstage by the remarkable.

I just wanted to say that, as always, we were entranced with the Richard Alston ballet. I have always wanted (in my elephantine way) to dance to Bach's Brandenburg Concerti, and to see young, skilled and exuberant dancers doing this so superbly was an amazing and exhilerating experience. Already we are looking forward to their next visit here. Long may the company be welcomed in Malvern!...... more
