Free Cinema for Primary Schools – November 2017

Malvern Theatres gave nearly 600 free cinema tickets to local primary schools this Autumn as part of an initiative to better engage children with film.

Pupils from The Grove, Great Malvern, Colwall, Hanley Swan, Claines and Withington primary schools took part and for some it was the first time they had visited the cinema.

The ‘Into Film’ project provides children with inspiring opportunities to learn about and with film, and develop a passion for cinema (www.intofilm.org).

Pupils watched Sing, Matilda or Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and used specially designed resources to complete classroom projects around the film.

Great Malvern Primary School Teacher Evelyn Henderson said: “We use this screening as a way to inspire a new project; our children will do a topic around what they’ve seen, reading new books and exploring fresh ideas.”

Into Film Festival will support teachers in delivering the curriculum, across subject areas, in a dynamic and engaging way.

It offers all young people wider life experiences and the chance to immerse themselves in the magic of cinema.
