Chandos 40th Anniversary Concert

18th November 2018 7:30 pm

Michael Lloyd  Conductor

David Cohen   Cello

Parry Elegy for Brahms

Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor (soloist: David Cohen)

Bruckner Symphony no 9

The music for this concert, as the regular concert date closest to the 40th Anniversary of the then Chandos Sinfonia, has been chosen after much thought as to how best celebrate this milestone.  Opening with the emotional Elegy for Brahms, the evening continues with Elgar’s wonderful Cello Concerto. By turns soulful, passionate, spirited and wistful, this work is arguably the most well-known in the instrument’s repertoire, and Chandos is extremely pleased that another great friend of the orchestra, the superb Belgian cellist David Cohen can be with us once again as soloist.

The concert concludes with Bruckner’s epic Symphony no 9. As the piece that first indicated the potential for Chandos Sinfonia to grow into the committed, enthusiastic and skilful group of musicians that it has now become, this was a natural choice to feature in this concert. Prepare yourself for music full of emotion, energy and drama that uses all of the current orchestra membership and more!

Ticket price includes a £1 contribution to our heritage fee.
