Event Reviews

    Amazing performance

  • Ann-Marie

We came to see Cinderella last night and would like to say a huge thank-you to the cast and crew as this was a production well done.
My sons are 23, 21 and along with my husband we had a really great time.
We go to the Panto every year as a family and this year was one of the best.
    Well done to all concerned.
    See you next year

  • Alison

We loved it but some of the set would be for beauty and the beast !! I found that very confusing .

  • Penny

Came to the panto this afternoon with my 7 yr old Granddaughter. What a wonderful time we had.
Loved the set and the costumes and the whole production with a very talented cast was brilliant.
    Thank you to everyone involved.

  • Jane

Fantastic pantomime! The cast were amazing, it was such an enjoyable event and well worth every penny. A huge well done to everyone involved in this production!

  • Aspen

Just saw Cinderella Today (Sunday 17th) it was amazing and i really enjoyed it!! The Opening song sounded really familiar but i couldn't put my finger on it but maybe someone else might know the name. but it was all fantastic and i highly recommend going to see it.

  • Helen

Fabulous fun evening with friends last night . Excellent traditional panto as always at Malvern !

  • Alison

We came last night (Sunday 17th December) it was a wonderful production & my children & nephews loved it! Especially fairy godmother!!! We live in Australia and don't have pantomime culture - it was really great to visit Malvern for this show 🙂 my little boy (5) has been chatting about "buttons" all day!

  • choiceradioworcester@hotmail.com

So is panto season in full swing in Malvern? Oh, yes it is!

Perennial favourite Cinderella hits the ground running with three of the basics – He’s behind you!, Oh yes it is! and the obligatory mickey-taking of a dad dragged onto the stage – are all done within the first few minutes. But there is plenty more fun to be had during the show which, of course, centres on poor Cinderella’s appalling treatment by her ugly step-sisters and her eventual betrothal to her Prince Charming.

Firmly in the driving seat of audience interaction is comedian and magician Mark James as Buttons with the kids shouting out on cue every time he appears on stage to protect his secret box in the corner. Not that he monopolises the comedy - the pairing and sparring of Paul Lawrence-Thomas and panto director David Ball as the sisters is a joy to watch, especially as half the show’s budget must have gone on their extravagant and colourful costumes, different each time they come on stage!

Paul Hawkyard, famous from many TV roles including Coronation Street (which gets a mention) and EastEnders, plays Baron Hardup, whose daughter is the beautiful but downtrodden Cinderella (Gemma Naylor) who, at the end of the first act, comes on stage adorned in a gorgeous costume in a carriage pulled by... can't say - that would give away the surprise! Whilst Prince Charming (Ben Harlow) was in cahoots with Dandini (Mark Peachey) in order to get his girl, Cinderella had some help of her own in the form of Fairy Godmother (This Morning’s lovely Alison Hammond) whose actions finally get her her wings (though sadly this doesn’t lead to her flying around the stage!)

There are plenty of songs from the live band - some of which even grandparents will remember - with the audience on their feet and some great dance sequences too from the Villages and Malvern's Cecilia Hall Dance Centre, and, of course, some lucky littl'uns get the chance to join Buttons on stage for a sing song.

Cinderella continues the tradition of quality pantos with star names in Malvern, as evidenced by the packed house, and bodes well for next year’s extravaganza Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, tickets for which are now on sale

  • Diane

Fantastic panto we all had a great time today. All the cast were brilliant

  • Viv

Saw Cinderella matinee performance today 22/12/17. Took my nine year old daughter thinking she would love this. How wrong I was- the adult content constantly running through it ruined it for her as she kept asking what does that mean? It was rude and the constant references which adults would only understand was disappointing! Poor show

  • Rhona

    The whole show was brilliant.

  • Susan

Icame topantomime onboxing day 2pm performance and i realy enjoyed al thecast songs were fantastic very nostalgic as i am big kid at heart 63
    !!

  • Clare

First half was good, although it did seem like some of the cast couldn’t really be bothered. Five starts for buttons who held the show together!
Wouldnt recommend saw a panto just as good in pershore with no celebrities!

  • Siobhan

Top class entertainment from all performers. We are a family of four with two young children, a four year old and a six year old. All the jokes were for an ensemble audience, the innuendo kept to a very acceptable level.

We all loved it thoroughly and whole heartedly recommend for all the family!

  • Dionne

Fantastic, the kids loved it. The dancing and singing was fantastic.
    Everyone did so well.
My little girl wants to go see it again, she said she loved all of it.
I came online to book more tickets!

  • Heather

Very enjoyable and entertaining as an adult however I do feel some of the adult jokes and innuendos may have been a bit too much for some children. Cinderella was ok ... not the best but the rest of the main cast was good.

  • Kate

Too much smoke effect!! My eyes were watering & I couldn't stop coughing. And, was there much more singing in this Panto than usual? Sorry to be negative but this wasn't up there with the great ones we've seen at Malvern over the years.....Buttons was excellent though!

  • Sally

What a disappointment!! Buttons was the only cast member who could be bothered and how old was the prince!!!
Set looked creased and wrong for Cinderella ( I’m sure we’ve seen it in other productions) obviously the budget was spent on the ugly sisters costumes which were great but shame about the actors in them!

  • Debs

Well..... what can I say. Me and my 8year old son came to see the show and considering he had never seen one before he loved every minute of it. Even joined in.
Got to give credit to Buttons who in my opinion was the star of the show. We hope that he is back next year as we would definitely return to see him. Would say this suits all ages and would highly recommend. Brilliant time had by all!

  • John

This panto has something for everyone.

I don't agree with the few people who gave this show 1 star.. I took my two children who are 6 and 8 and both laughed at different things to what i did. The jokes are clean and some that go over the kids heads as in any panto. The star of the show for me is Buttons. My kids have been singing "Doo Wah Diddy Dum" all week.. MALVERN THEATRES you need to keep this Comic and get him back for next year... We are hoping to watch the show again at the weekend. FANTASTIC show and very colourful. WELL DONE.. FIVE STARS

  • Jane

Have been to many pantos at Malvern over the years and this has to be the best. A very strong cast, wonderful costumes and that intimate good-humoured atmosphere that is generally missing at the bigger city venues. Our large family party ranged from 21-80 and we all agreed - fantastic!

  • Paul

Watched the Panto today with my wife and two boys (6 & 10) and also the in laws. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! Thought the whole cast gave great performances (although did go off piste at times with the script which made it even funnier) and the Ugly Sisters were stars of the show along with Buttons. Some of the humour went over the boys heads and was more for the adults (which I think is what Panto is all about so not sure what other reviews are complaining about) and the scenery looked great (as I'm not a theatre NERD I pay more attention to the show rather than the cloth hanging from the rafters). Great show folks, definitely recommend.

  • Louise

Absolutely brilliant panel to this year. Outshines all the pantos I’ve ever seen! Entertaining from start to finish. Big shout out to the Ugly Sisters! Amazing!

  • Joy

Went to see Cinderella this afternoon 2/1/18 with my husband, brother and sister in law. We all thoroughly enjoyed every part of it. You don’t have to take children to enjoy panto. The cast were amazing and even the odd forgotten line was made hilarious. If one person stood out, it had to be Buttons, he was outstanding. All four of us would highly recommend this to anyone of any age.

  • Pat

Saw the matinee today. Thought it was an excellent feel-good show suitable for all ages. Special credit to Mark James as Buttons who was hilarious !

  • Shan

Brilliant matinee performance of Cinderella today....all round perfect family fun....my three year old grandsons first trip to pantoland and he absolutely loved it-what a hardworking cast with every part of a traditional Panto weaved into the performance -the icing on the cake ,a photo with the brilliant Buttons in the foyer-much chanting of’Buttons is best ‘all the way home-thank you so much

  • Bruce

    Great fun,took 3 grandsons 2,5 and 10.
Typical pantomime with amazing amount of enthusiastic audience participation.
    Excellent value for money.

  • Vickie

Had a brilliant time last night watching this years panto, my 6 year old son & mum loved it to. The ugly sisters had me laughing all the way through and Buttons was amazing, we even got a picture with him after. Quite possibly one of the best productions yet, really really had a great time, and will definitely be back next year. Please thank all the staff for a real wonderful evening.

  • Laura

I thoroughly enjoyed this pantomime. I thought everyone did a good job but especially Buttons and the taller of the ugly sisters, they really stole the show. I came with another adult and had been too cautious to bring my young son after seeing a panto last year that tipped over from gentle innuendo to being far too 'adult' humour (and less funny as a result!) but this one certainly wasn't too rude and kept the panto as good family fun. Seeing all the children around wave at and interact with Buttons was great, he really got them all involved. I would happily take younger ones to see him perform again.
Hoping for more of the same next year and we will definitely be back!

  • Pamela

Fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyable! A GREAT Panto in all aspects! We will certainly recommend it and look to return next year. The star of the show for us was Buttons, he was the heart and soul of it , drawing the audience into it. We do hope he stays with you for next year as we would love to see him again!

  • Deane

What an amazing panto. My 9 year old Autistic Son wanted to see this for Alison Hammond as he is a massive admirer but he just loved the whole production. He even plucked up the courage to watch the second half without ear defenders! A massive well done to all the cast you were amazing and such energy especially as we saw it on the 3/1 towards the end of its run but still magical. Many thanks to members of the cast who took the time to speak to my son after the show and such understanding, Alison, Mark, David and Ben. Fantastic evening

  • Clare

Brilliant! Really enjoyed the performance. Agree with other comments that Buttons and Ugly Sisters were fantastic.

  • Alex

I cringed when the comment about cleaners from Poland as there was a Polish family sitting beside me and they were quite upset. I didn't expect racist comments like that and the jibe about Elgar Avenue residents was beneath contempt. I only hope that Nic Lloyd puts a stop to any further abuse like the above.
