Downsizing (15)

February 9th - February 15th

A married couple decide to escape the daily humdrum of modern life by downsizing – a procedure which will see their bodies shrink to 5 inches tall, but their modest savings turn into millions of pounds.

Paul (Matt Damon) and Audrey (Kristen Wiig) Safranek are happily married but miserable in their working lives. When they hear about a revolutionary new procedure invented by Norwegian scientists that could transform their lives forever, they are decidedly curious.

The ‘downsizing’ procedure involves being shrunk to five inches in height, where even relatively modest assets can equate to millions of pounds. When the Safraneks hear about a downsizing community called Leisureland, where their £75k savings will be worth over £9m, they are hooked on the idea.

Before long, the couple find themselves on an unexpected adventure that finds them in places and situations they had never previously dreamed of. But, the Safraneks are about to discover there’s an ugly side to downsizing, which just so happens to be non-reversible.

Downsizing is possibly the most original concept you’ll find in theatres in 2017, and is directed by Alexander Payne (About Schmidt). The all-star cast includes two-times Oscar Winner Christoph Waltz (Inglourious BasterdsDjango Unchained), Matt Damon (SuburbiconOcean’s Eight) and Kristen Wiig (BridesmaidsThe Martian).
