Event Navigation
A boxer reaches the end of his career, with one last fight before retirement. Unfortunately, the events in the ring have more of an impact than he could’ve anticipated.
Matty Burton (Paddy Considine) is determined to end his boxing career on a high note. With critics and fans saying his last win was a fluke due to an over-cautious referee, he is relentless with his goal to prove that age hasn’t slowed him down.
Supported by his loving wife, Emma (Jodie Whittaker), Matty enters the ring feeling confident that his career will go out on a high note. Fierce and aggressive, Matty takes on his rival with a youthful energy his fiercest critics never imagined possible.
After the fight, Matty doesn’t feel quite as great. His head took a brutal beating, and the boxer collapses in his home due to an intensive brain injury that changes his life forever.
Journeyman tells the heart-breaking story of one man’s journey of coming to terms with a life completely altered. Paddy Considine (The Death of Stalin) writes, directs and stars in Journeyman, his second feature following 2011’s heart wrenching Tyrannosaur.
Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch, Doctor Who) has a stunning turn as Matty’s wife, whose love for her husband is put to the test while helping him to recover, as she discovers the man she married no longer exists.
Journeyman is the type of film that will stick with you long after the credits roll, and will no doubt be nominated for countless awards following release.
