Wonder (PG)

25th January 2018 7:45 pm

Once home-schooled, a young boy with a facial deformity is thrown into wider society when he starts to attend mainstream school.

Auggie (Jacob Tremblay) is just a normal kid, with one big difference. He was born with facial deformities, which meant he had to undergo several surgeries from birth. Because of this, his family home-schooled him, to help him recover.

Now, he doesn’t need so many surgeries. Suggesting that he might want to try mainstream school, Auggie just wants to be a normal kid. Used to the stares and comments that strangers make every day, he now has to contend with children his own age.

Making friends, confronting bullies, and learning all the while, Wonder tells the story of an extraordinary little boy who constantly defies others’ expectations of him.

Based on the international best-seller by R. J. Palacio, Wonder stars Jacob Tremblay (Room) as Auggie, Julia Roberts (August: Osage Country) as his mother, Isabel, and Owen Wilson (Zoolander No. 2) as his father, Nate.

Wonder is directed by Stephen Chbosky, who previously directed the fantastic adaptation of cult teen classic The Perks of Being a Wallflower, making Wonder the must-watch film of early 2017.
