Ali & Ava (15) Borderlines Film Festival

18th March 2022 - 20th March 2022

An effervescent bundle of music, humour and warmth, Ali & Ava is a contemporary love story set in Bradford.

Ebullient landlord Ali and pragmatic teaching assistant Ava meet through a chance encounter. Over the course of one month, sparks fly, and they connect. But their newfound passion is threatened by the legacy of Ava’s past relationship and the emotional turmoil following the breakdown of Ali’s marriage.

A keenly observed portrait of 21st century British society, it deftly explores issues of neurodiversity, race, class and mental health as they crop up for one Yorkshire couple. Intelligent
and thoroughly enjoyable, it’s a triumph for writer and director Clio Barnard (The Arbor, The Selfish Giant, Dark River).

Fri 18th March: Following the 8pm screening there will be a pre-recorded Q&A with Director Clio Barnard, Producer Tracy O’Riordan and actors Adeel Akhtar and Claire Rushbrook interviewed by Ian Haydn Smith
