MARY POPPINS RETURNS: RELAXED SCREENING (U)

28th December 2018 10:30 am

It’s 1930s London and everyone’s favourite nanny has returned – Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) is ready to spread joy and magic in the much-anticipated sequel to the 1964 classic. This time, she finds that the Banks children have grown up and found themselves in need of a friendly face – as well as a little bit of magic. A Disney musical and sequel starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Ben Wishaw, along with Dick Van Dyke, Emily Mortimer, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep.

Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) has a habit of turning up when she’s least expected – and when she’s needed the most.

And that’s exactly what happens on a particularly stormy day in 1930s London.

Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer) and her brother Michael (Ben Whishaw) are all grown up. But times are hard in Depression-era Britain, and, Jane, Michael, and Michael’s three children are heavy with sadness, reeling from the recent death of the children’s mother. To make matters worse, Michael is struggling to pay the bills and is at risk of losing their home.

Which is why they’re so glad when, at the very house where it all began on Cherry Tree Lane, Michael and Jane’s former nanny returns.

Mary Poppins has her work cut out for her. Michael is preoccupied with mountain of financial troubles he’s facing, and his three children are missing the spark that went out as soon as their mother died.

Together with the help of her friend Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) the street lamplighter, Mary sets about to do what she does best – putting things right in a strange, whimsical, and magical way.

But will she be able to convince Michael that there’s still happiness to be found, and help him see the colour in the world again?

The much-anticipated Disney musical and sequel to the 1964 classic is directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago) and features a star-studded cast. Dick Van Dyke, who played Bert and Mr Dawes Sr. in Mary Poppins, returns to play his original character’s son, Mr. Dawes Jr.

Other big screen giants include Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow), Emily Mortimer (Lars and the Real Girl) Meryl Streep (The Post), Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Angela Lansbury (Driving Miss Daisy) and Julie Walters (Paddington 2).

Relaxed screenings are specifically designed for people who find regular cinema settings challenging. We extend a warm welcome to people who feel overwhelmed by the ordinary cinema environment. These relaxed screenings are open to ANYONE who would benefit from a relaxed, non-judgemental atmosphere including (but not limited to) people living with dementia; people with an Autism Spectrum Condition; people with learning difficulties; people with sensory or communication difficulties; parents with young babies; and anyone who feels they would benefit from a more supportive and inclusive experience.
