Dark River (15)

29th March 2018 4:30 pm

An intense drama centred around the bitter dispute between a brother and sister over the tenancy of their family farm.

With news of her father’s death, Alice (Ruth Wilson) returns to her run-down family farm for the first time in 15 years to reclaim what she believes has been handed down to her. But all is it not as straight forward as she hoped.

Upon arriving at the farm, she has an unfriendly encounter with her older brother Joe (Mark Stanley), who she barely recognises from all those years ago. Left to look after their terminally ill father and run the business on his own, Alice’s brother is angered by her surprise appearance, fuelling a turbulent dispute over the land which later escalates into an ongoing family war.

As the drama unfolds, so does the past, as Alice battles with disturbing flashbacks from her childhood she thought were well and truly buried. Will the siblings be able to bury the hatchet and move on, or is it too little too late?

Directed by Clio Barnard, whose films have won awards at the British Independent Film Awards and BFI London Film Festival, this captivating feature film has received critical acclaim and features an all-star cast including Ruth Wilson (Saving Mr Banks), Sean Bean (Jupiter Ascending), and Mark Stanley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
