Based on the extraordinary memoirs of Liverpudlian actor, Peter Turner, this American-British film documents Turner’s magnetic relationship with leading Hollywood star Gloria Grahame.
Liverpool, 1978.
Sparks fly between struggling young actor named Peter Turner (Jamie Bell) and Gloria Grahame (Annette Bening) when they discover they are neighbours in the same north London boarding house. Little does Turner know that Grahame is a leading Hollywood star, with appearances in legendary hit films The Big Heat, It’s a Wonderful Life and In a Lonely Place.
Their relationship blossoms despite the age gap, but their affair is short-lived and life’s obstacles results in them going their own separate ways. Some years later, Turner receives a phone call that will change his life. Gloria’s health has taken a turn for the worse after she collapses in her dressing room.
Determined to make the most of her last moments, Gloria insists she moves to Liverpool. It is then that their passion and lust for one another is reignited, fuelling a deep and meaningful relationship that is captivating to watch.
