Fisherman’s Friends (12A)

29th March 2019 - 4th April 2019

A chance encounter with a record company exec results in a life-changing offer for a group of Cornish fishermen, in this hilarious and heart-warming British comedy. Featuring an ensemble cast of home-grown talent, including Daniel Mays, Tuppence Middleton, Noel Clarke, and Dave Johns, from the team behind modern classics Kids in Love and Finding Your Feet.

With storms to battle, nets to untangle, and fish to catch, for a group of fishermen living in Port Isaac, national stardom is the very last thing they’re thinking about.
Life in their small, northern Cornish town consists of early mornings, long days on the water, and a few pints in the pub before turning around and doing it all over again. When the mood strikes, they have a tendency to burst into song, harmonising over the very tunes that their grandfathers used to sing, committed to preserving the heritage they know and love.

What they don’t know is that someone who can change their lives is listening – and he likes what he hears.

When a big shot record executive stumbles into Port Isaac and discovers the musical magic that the locals are capable of, he immediately sees the potential for record sales, touring dates, and, most importantly, a tidy profit.

But these hardened sailors aren’t quite as starry-eyed as he anticipated, and it’s going to take a lot more than smooth talking to convince them to share their gift with the world.

The more time he spends in the funny little town, the clearer it becomes – he might be the one promising fame and fortune, but it’s the fishermen who have something far more valuable to offer him.

Directed by Chris Foggin (Kids in Love) and produced by the team behind British comedy Finding Your Feet, Fisherman’s Friends is based on the true store of the real-life singing group, who have risen from the tides of Cornwall to conquer the crowds of Glastonbury, while still keeping their day jobs.

Moving, funny, and irresistibly feel-good, it features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Daniel Mays (Swimming With Men), Tuppence Middleton (The Imitation Game), Noel Clarke (Brotherhood), Sam Swainsbury (Thor: The Dark World), David Hayman (Finding Your Feet), Dave Johns (I, Daniel Blake), and Maggie Steed (Paddington 2).
