The Golden Age of Canals

26th June 2019 7:45 pm

Wonderful colour film alongside great stories of effort, patience and ultimate triumph.

The inland waterways were the life-blood of the first industrial revolution. They ushered in a ‘golden age’ that lasted until the railways came along. Passing through some of Britian’s most picturesque landscapes they would have disappeared completely if it were not for the efforts of a few committed individuals.

TV director David Parker, who made the BBC film The Golden Age of Canals tells the story of how a small  band of enthusiasts rescued this quintessential part of our heritage and he’ll show some glorious clips from the film celebrating their achievements.
