Italian Choral Music
16th June 2018
Event Navigation
Birmingham Bach Choir return to Malvern Priory to perform a summer concert of an eclectic selection of Italian music spanning four centuries.
Birmingham Bach Choir is celebrating with a selection of choral music which has come down to us over the centuries in a wide-ranging programme spanning four centuries and exploring both sacred and secular music.
Sun-drenched Italy has produced some of the greatest artists and musicians of all time. Highlights are madrigals by two of the greatest Italians of their day, Claudio Monteverdi and Carlo Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa. The latter is as well known for having murdered his wife and her lover on discovering them in the act as he is for his amazingly expressive compositions!
The programme also includes unusual music by famous composers such as Lotti, Gabrieli, Rossini and ends with three magical part songs by the 20th century choral master, Ildebrando Pizzetti
