An Audience with Kate Humble

11th June 2018 7:45 pm

Kate Humble is a writer and broadcaster specialising in science, wildlife and rural affairs. Together with her husband Ludo she lives in permanently muddy jeans on a smallholding in Wales.

Join Kate for a fascinating talk about her life working with animals as well with wildlife, the far flung places that this has taken her to and the inspiring people she has met on her travels. There’s also a unique chance to go ‘behind the camera’ as Kate describes how the programmes are made along with some lovely anecdotes about the filming

The second series of Kate’s popular BBC programme Back to the Land will air in 2018 and will be the latest in a long line of programmes Kate has presented for the BBC including Springwatch and Autumm Watch, Wild Shepherdess, Yellowstone: Wildest Winter to Blazing Summer, Curious Creatures and Extreme Wives with Kate Humble. Her latest book ‘Friend for Life:  The Extraordinary Partnership between Humans & Dogs’ is out in paperback.

She had what she describes as a ‘proper childhood’ – building camps, racing snails, climbing trees, interspersed with trips to A&E to patch up things when they broke.  At 18 she left school and home, and worked odd jobs for a year to fund a year travelling in Africa, which, she says, taught her far more than she would ever have learnt at university.

In 2007 she and her husband Ludo moved to a smallholding in Wales and in 2011 set up ‘Humble by Nature’ a rural skills school on a working farm in the Wye Valley.  They live with a variety of feathered and furry livestock and three dogs.

Ticket price includes a £1 contribution to our heritage fund.
