Malvern Festival Chorus

25th November 2018 6:00 pm

Malvern Festival Chorus presents an evening of sacred choral music in the great classical tradition by two of the genre’s foremost composers, J. S. Bach and W. A. Mozart. Originally composed in the key of E-flat in 1723, Bach subsequently transposed his glorious Magnificat to the brighter key of D, a more satisfactory key for the trumpets. Mozart’s Mass in C K317 was composed over 50 years later and probably gained its popular title of Coronation Mass as a result of its performance at the coronation of the Austrian Emperor Francis I in 1792. The programme is completed by Mozart’s much-loved anthems, Ave Verum Corpus and Exsultate Jubilate.

The choir will be joined once again by accomplished soloists, including sopranos Louise Wayman and  Alison Ponsford-Hill as well as tenor James Oxley, the choir’s President, countertenor Simon Ponsford and bass Jamie Hall. Orchestral accompaniment will be provided by  acclaimed period instrument ensemble, Musical and Amicable Society.
