Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché (PG)

9th March 2020 1:30 pm

Early film pioneer Alice Guy- Blaché is the subject of this energetic documentary, both a tribute and a detective story.

Paris-born Guy-Blaché entered the movie business at the very beginning—in 1894, aged 21. Two years later, head of production at Gaumont, she started directing; she brought stories into a medium that had previously just captured actualities. By 1919 she had written and produced more than 1,000 films. “A film maker of rare sensitivity and a remarkably poetic eye” (Martin Scorsese), clips and material uncovered by Green’s persistent research bear testimony to her talent.

Director: Pamela Green
Starring: Jodie Foster, Alice Guy-Blaché, Julie Delpy, Kevin MacDonald, Kevin Brownlow
US, 2018, 1 hour 43 minutes
