Queen & Slim (15)

21st February 2020 - 23rd February 2020

When a cop pulls over a young black couple for a minor misdemeanour, the situation spirals towards tragedy as the officer is shot in an act of self-defence. On the run and fearing for their lives, the pair must overcome the most desperate of circumstances to make it out unscathed. Academy Award nominee Daniel Kaluuya stars alongside Jodie Turner-Smith in this dramatic love story.

After meeting on an online dating site, young black pair Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) and Slim (Daniel Kaluuya) head home after an evening out together. As Slim is about to drop off his date, though, he’s pulled over by a police officer for failing to indicate at a turn – a minor offence. But as he steps out of the vehicle, the cop immediately draws a gun.

With the pair in danger, Queen makes it clear that she’s an attorney as she slowly reaches for her phone. As the officer takes his attention off Slim and takes aim at the helpless Queen instead, the young black man launches for the gun to save the life of his date. The act of self-defence has tragic consequences, however, as the policeman is left lifeless in the road following a panicked shot from Slim.

Terrified for their lives, and fearing the unsympathetic wrath of the law, the new couple flee the scene. But when they discover the whole encounter was caught on camera, and the media is labelling them cop-killers, they decide to make a run for it completely.

Facing desperate circumstances, the two must stick together as they forge a deep love and understanding for each other.

Renowned music video director Melina Matsoukas calls the shots on the silver screen for the first time with Queen and Slim. Academy Award nominee Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Black Panther, Sicario) stars alongside rising star Jodie Turner-Smith (Nightflyers) in this powerful drama that confronts the startling violence and life-shattering human toll of racism.
