The Railway Children (Malvern Theatre Players)

15th December 2018 - 21st December 2018

(Resident Company of the Coach House Theatre)
42nd Season Present

The Railway Children

Adapted for the stage by Dave Simpson
From the novel by E Nesbit

By arrangement with Samuel French Ltd

A superb adaptation for the stage of E Nesbit’s classic novel. Following the wrongful arrest of their father, an Edwardian family are forced to move from their London home to the country and endure a life of genteel poverty. Their modest house, “Three Chimneys”, is close to a railway line which becomes the children’s main interest and source of many adventures, shared with the family of the station porter. Saving lives, rescuing a Russian refugee, looking after an injured schoolboy, the children enlist the help of a wealthy passenger to get their father out of prison and reunite the family.

The story was first performed as a play in 1984 at the Coliseum in London, became a famous film starring Jenny Agutter as Roberta and Bernard Cribbins as Perks, and continues to be performed regularly, most recently as a musical. Malvern Theatre Players reprise their sell-out 1990 Malvern Festival Theatre production in their new home at the Coach House Theatre.

A Christmas treat for all the family.
