The Cat and the Canary

17th February 2020 - 22nd February 2020

A new adaptation of the murderous mystery, which inspired three classic movies starring the likes of Bob Hope, Honor Blackman and Olivia Hussey.

Twenty years after the death of Mr. West, his descendants gather at a remote mansion to learn who will inherit his vast wealth and the hidden family jewels. When the heir is revealed, the heritage hunters turn into prey and a chain of macabre events is set in motion; walls crack open, shadows loom and dark secrets are revealed.

Will the heirs dare to face the haunting presence toying with them? When the cat prowls, the flock takes fright…

Building on the phenomenal decade-long success of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company, The Classic Thriller Company presents their latest adaptation of this mysterious and turbulent classic.

Starring Britt Ekland (The Man with the Golden Gun, The Wicker Man), Mark Jordon (Heartbeat, Emmerdale), Tracy Shaw (Coronation Street), Marti Webb (Evita, Tell Me on a Sunday), Gary Webster (Minder), Ben Nealon (Soldier Soldier) and Eric Carte (Bouquet of Barbed Wire).

Running time: approx. 2 hours 16 minutes, including interval.

Event Reviews

  • Judith

I really enjoyed the opening night of this lovely play, very funny at times, especially that unscripted moment (!) and a few jump out of your skin moments. Excellent cast who work very hard, a brilliant set, and a great evening. I just wish Malvernians were more effusive in their appreciation, it makes such a difference when the cast have acted their socks off.

  • Heather

Best play I’ve seen in a long time.

  • Jo

Drove from Oxford to watch and well rewarded. Brilliant set and superbly acted. Effects were great: made us jump, and genuinely funny laugh out loud moments. In fact, proper theatre. We loved it. Have never been disappointed by a Malvern Theatre production. Very well done.

  • Terry

I enjoyed the play, but was a little disappointed with the absence of Britt Ekland with no explanation as to why she wasn't appearing. But her understudy ,Briony Rawle was excellent in the role of Mrs.Pleasant . A very enjoyable evening!
