The Favourite (15)

9th February 2019 - 10th February 2019

Queen Anne holds the throne while her kingdom is at war with the French. But her ill-health and strange sensibilities mean it’s down to a trusted friend to take charge within a turbulent palace. The Favourite is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and stars Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, and Emma Stone.

It’s the early 18th Century, and England is ruled by Queen Anne (Olivia Colman). Despite the country being at war with the French, the Queen is fragile, physically and mentally. It’s down to her most trusted ally and friend, Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) to rule secretly in her stead.

In the midst of the chaos caused by the quick to anger ruler, a new servant named Abigail (Emma Stone) is hired by the palace. Charming and endearing, Abigail quickly wins Sarah over who then takes the servant under her wing, promising a better life.

Unfortunately, Sarah’s attention is pulled from Abigail and the Queen to the brutal politics of war. In her absence, Abigail steps in as the Queen’s new aide. Taking full advantage of this opportunity, Abigail has a lazer-sharp focus on her new potential life – and won’t let anything stand in her way.
