The Lion King (PG)

19th July 2019 - 1st August 2019

Simba is born into royalty – his father Mufasa rules the Pride Lands and all who live there, and one day it’ll all be his. But his scheming uncle Scar has other ideas. Director Jon Favreau brings us a live-action remake of the much loved The Lion King, starring Beyoncé, Donald Glover, and Seth Rogan.

King Mufasa (James Earl Jones) has gathered the Pride Land to celebrate the birth of his son, the new prince – Simba (Donald Glover). The lion cub is playful and adventurous, and so one day his father decides to take him out into the Kingdom for the first time, where he explains the responsibilities of a king.

Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor), brother to Mufasa, covets the throne, though, and is always trying to lead the young cub into danger. One day, he sets Simba into a cavernous valley, before triggering a stampede of wildebeest on the prince. As expected, Mufasa comes to the rescue, as he always does, but this time the lion king can only save his son, succumbing to the oncoming cattle.

Scar blames the death on the impressionable Simba who is driven far away, guilt-ridden, where he meets Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumbaa (Seth Rogan) and grows up following the mantra of Hakuna Matata, learning to live with no worries.

Years later, old friend, Nala (Beyoncé), discovers Simba and explains the dire state of the Pride Lands, and the pair rush back to Pride Rock.

The presence of the rightful heir triggers outcry, and Simba must battle Scar in bid to reclaim his throne.

From the director of the critically acclaimed live-action Jungle Book, Jon Favreau brings us The Lion King. Starring Beyoncé (Obsessed), Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Seth Rogan (The Disaster Artist), this retelling of the 1994 classic is sure to become a favourite for years to come.

Cert: PG
