Event Navigation
Preoccupied with the events of his youth, an old man is sent a memento of his past that sparks a desire to learn the whole truth.
Tony Webster (Jim Broadbent) has spent his seniority reflecting on the events of his past.
As a teenager, he had a relationship with a beautiful young woman, and he had a best friend. The girlfriend and the best friend eventually developed their own relationship, causing Tony to send them both a wrenchingly cruel letter.
Their lives moved on, but when Tony is sent a diary, he realises that his memories of the past might not be quite accurate, and that the story is never completely told until all sides can reveal their own truths.
Tony embarks on a journey to understand the truth, and hopefully reconcile his own past. At the same time, he must not neglect his daughter, Susie (Michelle Dockery), who is dealing with her own complex issues.
Starring Jim Broadbent (The Lady in the Van), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years), Emily Mortimer (Spectral) and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), The Sense of an Ending is the beautiful and startling adaptation of the critically-acclaimed novel by Julian Barnes.
