The Zookeeper’s Wife (12A)

12th May 2017

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating until 18th May 2017

The true story of two zookeepers who protected humans and animals during World War II.

Jan (Johan Heldenbergh) and Antonina Żabiński (Jessica Chastain) lived an idyllic life, caring for the animals of Warsaw Zoo. That all changed with the outbreak of World War II, as the zoo became a target for bombing, destroying the buildings and killing many of the animals living there.

As the remaining structures are closed to the public to inhabit farming, Antonina and Jan are pulled by an insatiable desire to help the innocents who are suffering from the war – the animals, and the Jewish people living in the Warsaw Ghetto.

Based on the true story of a brave couple, who risked their lives to save a total of 300 Jewish Poles, The Zookeeper’s Wife is a shocking and awe-inspiring tale of resistance and compassion, that will leave you reaching for the tissues before the credits roll.

Starring Jessica Chastain (The Martian, The Help), Daniel Brühl (Rush) and Johan Heldenbergh (The Confessions), this touching story is directed by Niki Caro (McFarland).
