The National G&S Opera Company: Trial by Jury & The Sorcerer

27th September 2018 - 28th September 2018

National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company

Trial by Jury & The Sorcerer

Accompanied by a full Orchestra

A magical double bill of two Gilbert & Sullivan favourites.

Trial by Jury is a delightful, one act operetta about the glamorous Angelina, jilted by her dastardly fiancee Edwin. She decides to sue him for breach of promise of marriage. The judge and indeed all the members of the jury fall for Angelina’s charms so will she finally manage to walk down the aisle?

Gilbert’s wit is brilliant and Sullivan’s music at its best, so no wonder Trial by Jury has been referred to as “probably the most successful British one-act operetta of all time”. A joy!

The Sorcerer is a rare opportunity to see a magical Gilbert and Sullivan show that seldom gets a professional outing. The plot is based on a Christmas story, An Elixir of Love, that Gilbert wrote for The Graphic magazine in 1876.

Love potions, a sorcerer and his magic spells… what could possibly go wrong? Don’t miss this spellbinding production directed by John Savournin and conducted by the equally magical James Hendry.
