A Quiet Passion (12A)

19th May 2017

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating until 25th May 2017

The story of American poet Emily Dickinson, from her youth to adulthood as misanthropic, struggling writer.

As a young girl, Emily Dickinson (Emma Bell) was a vivacious, witty and hugely intelligent child. Developing a passion for all classical subjects, she adored education and savoured her role in the family.

Death struck her closest friends, leaving Emily feeling lost and melancholy – a feeling that would follow her into adulthood. As the years went by, her obsession with immortality and death grew, and adult Emily Dickinson (Cynthia Nixon) became reclusive, focussing her life into her poetry.

This dramatic biopic of the great American poet is a witty and heart-wrenching look into the life of Emily Dickinson, played in adulthood by Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City, The Adderall Diaries).

Co-starring alongside Nixon is Jennifer Ehle (50 Shades of Grey, The King’s Speech) as Vinnie Dickenson, Emily’s closest friend and ally. Young Emily is played by Emma Bell (The Walking Dead), who beautifully showcases the poet’s complex and fascinating childhood.

Written and directed by Terrance Davies (Sunset Song, The Deep Blue Sea), A Quiet Passion is set to delight and enthral fans of both the artist and period drama.
