In the aftermath of the Second World War, against a backdrop of protest and prejudice from the people of Britain, a German former POW becomes goalkeeper for Manchester City.
Dismissed as the enemy and struggling to be accepted, he falls in love with an Englishwoman named Margaret and gradually wins over his opponents with his talent for football – a talent which would take him to the 1956 FA Cup Final.
