Saving Grace

27th August 2019 7:45 pm

Saving Grace … a co-operative including Suzi Dian – vocals, Oli Jefferson – percussion, Tony Kelsey – mandolin, baritone and acoustic guitars, Robert Plant – vocals and Matt Worley – banjo, acoustic and baritone guitars, and cuatro … ‘from a whisper, to a scream’

Founded in early 2019, Saving Grace has performed just a handful of dates across the UK, all to exceptional reviews. We’re delighted to welcome the band to Malvern.

‘Their music was sublime, laid-back and bluesy with eastern and folk influences. Robert was in fine voice, Suzi’s vocals blended perfectly, as well as standing out and owning it in her own right. With warm harmonies from Tony and Matt … we couldn’t believe our luck!’.
Ultimate Classic Rock

‘I have watched Plant live in many incarnations but I’ve never heard his voice sounding as comfortable as it did tonight, at home in the family he has created with these master musicians.’.
Hot Press

‘And herein lies part of what makes Saving Grace so special. It’s the songs. In a word, they’re great. They’re great songs to start with, but this band (and it is very much a ‘band’, in no way a ‘victory lap’ platform for Plant) takes them to new places’
Irish Examiner

‘The songs they select are often sung in close harmony, often spiritual and accompanied, appropriately enough, with banjo and acoustic guitar, plus superb electric guitar and rock drumming as well. Even though there were thousands there, the band created an extraordinary level of emotional intensity and intimacy. It was a magical ending to Sunday evening.’
The Evening Standard

‘An eclectic mix of folky-bluesy-jazzy tunes that never once disappointed … The harmonies were spot on’
The Journal of Roots Music

Running time: approx. 2 hours 30 minutes, including an interval.

Event Reviews

It was amazing and it had grace.
The only problem was the heat in the place; ineffective air-conditioning made it a bit uncomfortable.
That said, the songs, the musicians, the voices, and the exceptionally unassuming but fabulous Robert Plant (my hero as a star-struck teenager since the mid-70s) made my evening.
