The Phantom of the Open (PG) Borderlines Film Festival – Preview

5th March 2022 7:30 pm

PREVIEW

Truth is more hilarious than fiction in this winning adaptation of the life of Maurice Flitcroft, ‘the World’s Worst Golfer’.

Mark Rylance plays 40-something crane operator and family man Flitcroft who decides quite arbitrarily that golf is his game. When an unbelievable turn of events earns him a place in the qualifying round of the 1976 British Open, Maurice borrows some books, buys the kit and gets hold of a set of clubs. There’s One hitch; he has never played a round in his life. It doesn’t stop him.

Craig Roberts’ hugely engaging film celebrates eternal optimism.
