CBSO play Elgar and Beethoven

February 23rd 7:30 pm

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
Conducted by Kazuki Yamada
with Maria Dueñas (violin)

Beethoven: Violin Concerto
Elgar: Enigma Variations

Elgar’s Enigma Variations are an unforgettable musical portrait of the friends who made him the man he was, right here in Worcestershire 125 years ago. But it’s much more than that, and tonight Kazuki Yamada joins violinist Maria Dueñas to pair it with a masterpiece that Elgar loved throughout his life: Beethoven’s radiant Violin Concerto.

As the new Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Kazuki Yamada builds upon the deep musical bond formed with players during his time as Principal Guest Conductor of the orchestra, a role held by him since 2018.

Spanish violinist María Dueñas beguiles audiences with the breathtaking array of colours she draws from her instrument. Her technical prowess, artistic maturity and bold interpretations have inspired rave reviews, captivated competition juries, and secured invitations to appear with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors
