ESO – Universe of the Mind

8th December 2023 7:30 pm

ENGLISH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Conducted by Kenneth Woods
With
Maja Bogdanovic (cello) and Daniel Rowland (violin)

Johannes Brahms – Double Concerto
Jean Sibelius – Symphony No. 5
Steve Elcock – Fermature (world premiere)

The ESO continues its ‘Music for Humans’ Season by examining the musical worlds of two of the most private and personal of composers: Brahms and Sibelius. Daniel Rowland and Maja Bogdanovic (who returns following her exceptional performance of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto last January) are the soloists in Brahms’s famous Double-Concerto. After the interval, the orchestra will perform Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony, long a favourite with audiences. The programme also includes the World Premiere of Steve Elcock’s Fermature, which was commissioned by ESO Artistic Director Kenneth Woods.
