Fences (12a)

3rd March 2017 - 9th March 2017

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating indefinitely

In this Golden Globe nominated film, Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington) has spent his life in a small town working each day to provide for his family. And he’s having trouble coming to terms with it.

It’s 1950 and Troy Maxson struggles to make ends meet. A waste collector in Pittsburgh, he doesn’t have a glamorous routine, but he still shows up each day, committed to the life he’s locked into.

But soon the repetitive patterns start to wear on his mind. As he looks at his teenage son, Cory (Jovan Adepo), and reflects upon the dreams he never achieved, an anger begins to smoulder within him.

And he slowly starts to burn those who love him the most.

Troy must reconcile with the battles he has faced over the years – caused by his race, his class and his own personal failures.

He begins to notice the catastrophic impact of the barriers that exist in life; most notably the fences we build around ourselves.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play by iconic Pennsylvanian playwright August Wilson, Fences explores the complex layers of change and inequality that built the social landscape of America in the 1950s. Wilson also wrote the screenplay, which is directed by Denzel Washington (The Magnificent Seven), who also stars as the troubled Troy Maxson.
