A Ghost Story (12A)

24th September 2017 7:45 pm

A young man dies before his time and attempts to reconnect with his beloved wife from the afterlife in this haunting spectacle from the brilliant mind of David Lowery.

A young, nameless couple living together in a remote, countryside home. He spends his days composing music, whilst she secretly dreams about leaving. When the man perishes in a nasty car wreck, he yearns to reconnect with his wife and returns to their family home as a ghostly presence, watching others pass through the house.

Over time, he begins to accept his place in the afterlife, and comes to understand what it is to love and to lose the things you love the most.

Director David Lowery has fast grown a reputation for producing thought-provoking film that push buttons and challenge the viewer, whether that be his fresh take on Pete’s Dragon (2016) or his last outing with Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints (2013).

A Ghost Story has been well-received by critics and festival audiences, with many declaring it to be an early contender for film of the year. Affleck is still riding high from his Best Actor Oscar for Manchester by the Sea (2017), whilst Mara has enjoyed success with Lion (2016) and Carol (2015).

“Brilliant and profound.”Indiewire

“Lovely, mysterious and cosmic.”Time Out New York

“Casey Affleck channels Swayze in this haunting love story.” – The Guardian
