An unconventional biography of photographer Nan Goldin by Laura Poitras (Citizenfour) loops her work, her personal history and her activism powerfully together.

Celebrated for her intimate, explicit photographs of friends and lovers in the LGBTQ subcultures of 80s/90s Boston and New York through the HIV/AIDS crisis, in 2017 Goldin began speaking about her terrifying experience with the painkiller OxyContin. Founding the organisation PAIN, Goldin began lobbying galleries and museums benefiting from funds from the Sackler family – the owners of the drug company most responsible for the recent US opioid epidemic. It’s a devastating indictment of how western systems of power and profit exploit individual bodies and lives, but also a tribute to the ways this remarkable artist has found to challenge them.

Please note: All entry to Malvern Cinema is currently through the fire exits located at the front (Grange Road) side of the building. For audience members entering through the rear (Park) doors, entry to the Cinema is via the corridor adjacent to Door 6 of the Forum Theatre. We very much regret that, for reasons of safety, there will be no wheelchair access to Malvern Cinema until further notice.  Because of this we will be substantially increasing the number of film screenings in the Forum Theatre, which remains accessible to wheelchair users.  For more access information please click HERE.
