CBSO with Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla

6th October 2017

The CBSO’s recently appointed Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla has chosen Malvern for one of her first touring engagements with the orchestra. The concert will open with Weber’s celebrated overture to Der Freischutz before the orchestra is joined by clarinettist Jorg Widmann for a performance of Mozart’s autumnal Clarinet Concerto. The concert ends with a performance of Brahms’s Symphony No. 1.

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
Conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla
with Jorg Widmann (Clarinet)

Weber: Overture to Der Freischütz
Mozart: Clarinet Concerto K. 622
Brahms: Symphony No. 1

★★★★★“The 29-year-old Lithuanian has already established a wonderful rapport with the members of the orchestra … Gražinytė-Tyla seems to have that precious conductor’s knack of allowing players all the expressive freedom they want, while still being able to shape every aspect of a performance in exactly the way she wants” The Guardian, August 2016
