Chandos: Four Last Songs

12th November 2017

Butterworth A Shropshire Lad

R Strauss Four Last Songs

Elgar/Payne Symphony No 3

Michael Lloyd conductor

Alison Roddy soprano

An air of nostalgia pervades this programme: Butterworth’s lovely Rhapsody with its tangible sense of yearning for an England gone by; the emotional depths of Strauss’s heart-achingly beautiful Four Last Songs; and the old-order resistance to changing world events in Elgar’s writing, so illuminatingly brought to life by Anthony Payne in 1997.

We are joined by international opera & concert soprano, Alison Roddy, whose career has taken her around the world’s top opera houses including her spell as principal at ENO. Concert appearances have ranged from Birmingham’s Symphony Hall to 10 Downing Street.

Ticket price includes a £1 contribution to our heritage fund.
