Hoping to provide for their families, struggling Kosovan women start a business but meet hostility and resistance.
Director Berta Basholli read about Fahrije Hoti in a local news report. She was a real person whose husband went missing in the 1999 Kosovan War and this is her fictionalised story.
Hoti learned to drive and set up a collective with other women in her position – not technically widows since no bodies have ever been found – selling local food products. Together, they find
healing and solace in the new venture, but their will to live independently provokes hostility in the deeply conservative, patriarchal village and closer to home.
