Set in a Geneva juvenile support home, this raw and intimate drama from former social worker Baillif could easily pass for documentary.
Seven girls live together under the same roof, but not out of choice. Taken into care from difficult backgrounds, here they find community as never before. Sharing joy and pain, they rebel noisily against the shortcomings of their surroundings – and occasionally, each other.
Work-shopped over two years with its nonprofessional cast, themselves living in care at the time of filming, the chain of incidents in La Mif (which translates as ‘fam’) exemplifies the impacts of abuse, the tribulations of coming of age, and the ethics of social care.
