This personal drama from filmmaker Emanuele Crialese, set in 1970’s Rome, stars Penélope Cruz as Clara, a free-spirited mother to a teenager who is beginning to question their identity.
Warm and loving with a larger than life presence, Clara’s world begins to crumble under the strain of protecting her children from their abusive father. Punctuated by radiant fantasy sequences, L’immensità is a thoughtful meditation on childhood trauma and shifting identity that treats its themes with nuance and psychological honesty.
