Super/Normal & Other Short Plays

2nd September 2023 - 3rd September 2023

Super/Normal and Other Short Plays is a night of comedy plays about being different, feeling trapped, and well, not being so ‘super’ anymore. A team of Superheroes lose their super-powers and are forced to rejoin the job market, a woman grows a bizarre friendship with a shop dummy, an agoraphobic is haunted by the people on her T.V, and it’s only 15 minutes until curtain up and the leading man has gone AWOL – All in one evening.

15 Minute Call – (Run time 15 minutes)

Backstage 15 minutes before the show starts and Movie Star (and leading man) Robert Dulcimer, is nowhere to be found. The understudy is in the hospital and the director is about to explode. If only there were someone else who knew the words. If only there wasn’t the issue of a dead body to deal with.

Cake – (Run time 15 minutes)

It’s Susan’s Birthday, and she is all on her own. Except for the presenters of her favourite TV shows, of course. They are always there to comfort her. Although today, they are starting to get a little bit too close for comfort…

Mannequin Piece – (Run time 20 minutes)

Anna is a little odd. She is overly fond of bad puns and would much rather talk to people online than in person. Faced with the prospect of meeting her flat-mate’s new boyfriend, her social anxiety is through the roof. When her flat-mate brings a mannequin home from work, Anna sees the opportunity for some social practice. Isn’t it so much easier to talk to someone that you know can’t talk back?

Super/Normal – (Run time 40 minutes)

The UK’s premier team of Superheroes have suddenly lost their superpowers. The government have decreed that they must re-enter the job market with the ‘normies’ within 10 weeks or lose their superhero benefit package. Forced to attend ‘Normal Club’, at the local Jobcentre, they have to learn how to reintegrate into society by way of a government scheme. Because that always works out fantastically…right?
