Malvern Theatres Young Company was created in 2012 to encourage young people’s enjoyment and participation in the arts and to offer a unique opportunity to be involved in a professionally-led production. The first year’s show, Little Shop of Horrors, played to an audience of 1,053 and since then the company has gone from strength to strength, with 2015’s production of Oliver playing to an audience of 3,271 people.
In 2016 we introduced our first drama production with Nic Lloyd directing Thornton Wilder’s play, Our Town. This year will see Nic returning to the director’s seat to stage a compelling production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.
For the first time ever, we are able to present this production free of charge in order to introduce the work of the company to as wide an audience as possible. All seats will have free admission and there will be a departing collection for audience members who would like to donate towards next year’s project.

Since 2012, over 120 young people have taken part in the company, with a core ensemble of 26 who have appeared in over 3 of the last 6 productions.
“Overwhelming sense of pride that Malvern has such an amazing group of young people with the talent, dedication and sheer brilliance shown in last night’s performance of Oliver. Standing ovation was well deserved. Absolutely fabulous. Thank you.” Alex, audience member, Oliver, 2015
“This is the third production I have seen from this company and they never fail to deliver outstanding performances, congratulations to all involved on another success, well deserving of the standing ovation.” Steph, audience member 2015
Malvern Theatres are deeply committed to developing the skills of the next generation and are thrilled that 13 past participants are now working professionally within the industry and 12 are continuing their study of the performing arts at higher education.
“Last summer I was in ‘Our Town’ with Malvern Young Company – it was the best few weeks of my life. I learnt so many new skills and it built my confidence on stage so much. I really recommend it to anyone who has a passion for acting and performing.” Grace Shuttlewood, MTYC Participant 2016
