Based on a true story about a gang of retired criminals who carried out a major heist in London’s famous diamond district. Hatton garden, 2015. A group of sophisticated criminals manage to pull off a major heist in London’s famous jewellery district.
A huge haul of diamonds worth £200 million has been taken from the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company. But rather than a gang of highly dangerous mobsters, the public is sent into a frenzy when it’s revealed that the culprits are pensioners in their late 60s and 70s who are suffering from all kinds of physical ailments.
Despite their old age, the unlikely suspects managed to pull off one of the biggest robberies in British history. With a bit of learned graft and a few handy how-to books, they enter via a lift shaft and escape through a hole they drilled in the 50cm thick vault.
You might not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still use the ones he’s already mastered.
A fascinating drama based on the true events of the 2015 London diamond heist, The King of Thieves is directed by James Marsh, who brought us the ground-breaking hit The Theory of Everything.
