Seventeen years previously, LAPD detective Erin Bell and her partner went undercover in the desert to infiltrate a notorious criminal gang, led by the terrifying Silas. Wrecked by the trauma of her experience, Erin is forced to confront her demons when signs indicate that Silas has re-emerged. Forcing herself to delve back into the painful facts of the investigation, she goes in search of the remaining members of his posse, determined to track down Silas and finally close the case that almost destroyed her. With Nicole Kidman physically and emotionally transformed as the unlikeable, tough and grungy Erin, this is a downbeat detective story, sweltering with Californian heat and aridity, that is not afraid to put a woman at its centre.
