A tense one-man crusade against big business interests is the latest film from the director of Carol.
Robert Billott, an Ohio lawyer works for a big company that represents the interests of major corporations like DuPont, the global chemical manufacturer. Against the advice of his firm, he takes on the cause of a West Virginian cattle farmer who is convinced that his cows are dying because of water supply contamination from the DuPont factories. Mild-mannered and solid, Billott absorbs the cost of an investigation that plays out over a dozen years on his family life and well-being. Ruffalo, who also co-produced, is a wellknown environmental activist, and this story, from a New York Times magazine article, has real resonance.
