Nanook of the North (PG) Borderlines Film Festival – With Live Accompaniment

6th March 2022 7:30 pm

Live musical accompaniment by Meg Morley.

Enormously popular since its original release a hundred years ago, Nanook of the North has been celebrated as one of the most beautiful films in the history of cinema.

Flaherty made his film of Eskimo (Inuit) life following six years as an Arctic explorer for the Canadian Northern Railway. He seized upon the idea of structuring his movie around characters who re-enacted episodes of their lives and participated in the shaping of the film. Untrained as an anthropologist, Flaherty wisely guides our discovery of the people and their activities and the film wasa huge influence on many ethnographic films that followed.

Voted into Top 10 of Sight & Sound’s Greatest Documentaries of All Time South West Silents and Borderlines 2022 are proud to present this recently new high definition version from Lobster
films, Paris which was originally sourced from Flaherty’s very own personal 35mm print.
