Goodbye Christopher Robin (PG)

6th October 2017 - 12th October 2017

Haunted by his time fighting in the WWI, author A.A Milne retreats to the countryside, where his son Christopher Robin provides the inspiration to create the magical world of Winne the Pooh.

Post-World War I, and Britain is a miserable place, in need of something positive to replace the sense of suffering and loss with hope and joy. Playwright A. A Milne is going through a period of self-doubt, himself bearing the mental scars from witnessing his friends and comrades die in battle.

Seeking peace and a little solitude, Milne and his wife retreat to a beautiful woodland home, and it is here that their son, Christopher Robin is born.

As Christopher grows into a bright and curious young boy, his father finds in his son and his box of toys the inspiration he’s looking for. Before long, the characters of Winnie Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet become a global sensation, along with Christopher Robin himself.

As one of the main characters in the books, the public interest in the little boy is insatiable with press from all over the globe queueing up to interview him. But, despite all of the attention and his piles of fan-mail, all Christopher wants is to spend some quality time with his father, who himself is busy expanding the Pooh universe with further adventures.

Goodbye Christopher Robin is the remarkable origin story of one of Britain’s best-loved children’s characters. Directed by Simon Curtis (Woman in Gold), the film features an all-star cast, including Margot Robbie (Peter Rabbit), Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Kelly Macdonald (T2 Trainspotting).
