One of the UKs most celebrated and established musicians, Stephen Hough returns to Malvern for the first time since March 2020. He does so with two of the biggest piano works in the nineteenth-century repertoire: Schumann’s Fantasie in C (written to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Beethoven’s death and dedicated to Franz Liszt) and Liszt’s own monumental Sonata in B Minor. As he did in 2020, Stephen Hough also adds one of his own compositions to the repertoire, his Sonatina Nostalgica as well as three works by Chopin.
Programme:
Chopin: Two Nocturnes Op.9 No.2 and Op 15.No.2
Scherzo No.2 in B-flat minor Op. 31
Schumann: Fantasie in C major, Op. 17
Hough: Sonatina Nostalgica
Liszt: Sonata in B minor
