Memoria (12A) Borderlines Film Festival

15th March 2022 - 16th March 2022

Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s first film shot outside Thailand stars Tilda Swinton in a mesmerising cinematic experience.

Since being startled by a loud ‘bang’ at daybreak, Jessica has been unable to sleep. In Bogotá to visit her sister, she roams the city in search of an explanation for the mysterious sound that only she can hear. In her wanderings, she finds her sense of hearing is mysteriously heightened.

Picking up many themes of this visionary director’s past films (Uncle Boonmee, Cemetery of Splendour) – sleep, personal and collective memory, nature, the inscrutability of the world around us and ourselves – it sets up a trance-like logic all its own.

Co-winner, Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival 2021

DIRECTOR: Apichatpong Weerasethakul
